Former Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas has once more opened up on his time at Celtic, naming a particular teammate whom he enjoyed a good relationship with.

The Greek stopper – who is now flying with FC Utrecht in the Netherlands – is on record advising ‘keepers not to join the Hoops, but time seems to have been a healer and he now sounds less bitter about his stint in Glasgow.

Barkas has recently stated he was unlucky, and that the COVID-19 pandemic in no way benefitted him in his move to Parkhead.

He spent two years with the Celts before leaving on loan and then permanently. Halfway through his spell with the club, Joe Hart joined as a new number-one stopper.

While the Englishman’s presence meant Barkas played just twice in the 2021/22 campaign, the pair still developed a friendship.

Recently speaking to World Football Index, the 29-year-old lifted the lid on the laughs they had together.

He said: “Joe Hart was a fantastic person as well as being a fantastic player, with a strong sense of humour.

“He achieved so much by winning the Premier League and FA Cup at Manchester City, but he never had an ego. He was humble and worked hard every single day in training.

“We had a strong relationship and shared many laughs together. It was a pleasure to know him.”
