Hibs supporters made sure Derek McInnes was reminded of one of the most painful afternoons of his managerial career during their dramatic victory over Rangers at Ibrox.
The Easter Road side made the trip west on Sunday to face McInnes’ Rangers, who were looking for their first competitive win of the season after drawing with Dundee United on the opening weekend.
Instead, they suffered another setback.
Hibs took the lead in the first half before Rangers eventually found an equaliser after the break.
With the home side pushing for a winner deep into stoppage time, though, Hibs produced the decisive moment at the other end, breaking forward and scoring to secure a 2-1 victory.
The defeat piles more pressure on McInnes, who has now gone without a competitive victory outside Edinburgh since January.
And Hibs supporters were more than happy to remind their new Ibrox boss of another particularly painful defeat.
McInnes left Hearts to take charge of Rangers this summer, having spent last season on the Tynecastle touchline.
But before that move, he was at the centre of one of the most dramatic Scottish Premiership title finishes in recent memory.
On the final day of last season, McInnes’ Hearts side needed only a draw against Celtic at Parkhead to win the league.
Instead, Martin O’Neill’s Celtic produced a remarkable comeback.
Hearts took teh lead in the match, but Celtic pulled themselves level through Arne Engels. Then, deep into the closing stages, Celtic scored twice, including Callum Osmond’s famous stoppage-time goal into an empty net, to seal a 3-1 victory.
The result sent the title to Celtic and left McInnes’ side empty-handed.
And Hibs fans had clearly not forgotten.
From the away end at Ibrox, they broke into a chant aimed directly at their former manager:
“McInnes lost the league at Celtic Park.”

It’s hard to argue with the facts.
McInnes’ Hearts had the chance to become champions that afternoon.
They left Celtic Park without the trophy or a shower – and Sunday’s defeat means his Rangers reign has now started with just one point from two Premiership matches.
