Neil Lennon gave an update on the future of his goalkeeper Craig Gordon who has NOT returned to Lennoxtown because his contract has expired.

While there’s a chance Craig could sign for the club again, Lennon confirmed he hasn’t seen the player as of yet but talks between Craig and the club are ongoing.

On the bigger picture of the transfer market, the Celtic gaffer was pragmatic in his approach. He told SunSport Celtic are doing their best to identify targets but the club might have to rely on loan deals and out of contract players.

Celtic aren’t immune to the shutdown and have been losing millions of pounds as the game sits idle in this country.

The club are going to have to balance supporter expectation with what can realistically be achieved. The Celtic gaffer seemed hopeful of getting some new faces through the door:

Lennon said: “Talks are ongoing between the club and Craig.

“We haven’t seen him, he is not at training at the minute. Hopefully we get that resolved sooner rather than later.”

“Already Jozo and Jonny have left so obviously we want to add to the squad and not break it up too much, I think continuity, for this season in particular, is going to be important.

“I would be very confident with the players we have got at the minute.

“They finished last season really strongly, the second half of the season was fantastic, and we have real quality and depth.

“Obviously as a manager you are always looking to add to that if you can but if it was to shut now I would be very happy with what I have.”

“It’s early and the way the market is, it’s going to be staggered.

“We will have to wait until some of the leagues are over before the majority of business gets done.

“And then we are going to see who is available. It might be loans and you might get some really good players on frees.

“We are in depth looking at players for the last couple of months in all areas.

“Patience is going to be key. A lot of business is done in the last week, you can get some really good business done.

“We are just going to have to bide our time and pick the right ones at the right moment.”

We thought there still would be a chance Craig Gordon would still be training with the club — even with him being out of contract. This can happen quite a lot, Charlie Mulgrew once trained with the team under Brendan Rodgers even though his deal came to an end, shortly before the player moved down south.
