FC Groningen’s Samir MemiÅ¡ević has confirmed he has had contact with Celtic about a possible move to Glasgow but has told Record Sport there is nothing concrete at this point other than ‘interest’.

Celtic were linked with the 25-year-old in the summer but didn’t make a move for the defender at the time.

Samir is now coming into the last six months of his Groningen deal and is weighing up his options before signing any deal with any club.

As far as Celtic is concerned, there was contact.” He told the Daily Record.

However, there is still nothing concrete been offered. So for the moment it’s just talk.

For me, it’s a very important time and I need to think very carefully about what is the best option for me and my career.

Celtic are in the market for at least one centre back with the club likely to lose Boyata and Benkovic in the summer.

Marvin Compper is also set to move on if he can find a new club.

Celtic have been very active over the past four months to identify targets who can be brought in early in the January window so they do not have a repeat of the farcical summer transfer window where a raft of targets were missed out on.

Samir has played 14 league games this season for his club, finding the net twice in his process.
