At the beginning of the summer, many Celtic fans such as myself would have had doubts as to whether we might qualify for European competition this season.

We are now around five months into the Ange Postecoglou era as Celtic boss, and he continues to show exactly why he was the man for the job with another impressive result last night.

Many in the media wrote Ange off after results, such as FC Midtjylland when we were eliminated from the Champions League. One journalist called the loss ‘catastrophic’, to the displeasure of the 56-year old.

Since then, though, the rebuild under Ange has continued, and although we have had slight setbacks at times, we have also picked up some significant results domestically and in Europe.

Last night we secured another big step, with European football after Christmas. It might not be the Europe League, which we still have all to play for in the final two games of the group, but once again, it is progress; we did not expect this early under Ange or any manager due to the size of the rebuild on our hands.

He also has his side playing free-flowing attacking football, as seen from the three goals on Thursday, whilst also solidifying the backline in the last few weeks.

Long may it continue.
