Brendan Rodgers Voices Concerns

CeltsAreHere posted a scathing article about the state of the Celtic Park pitch against Ross County straight after the match and it would appear the manager agrees.

Brendan Rodgers wasn’t in the most jovial of moods after Celtic made hard work of Ross County on Saturday afternoon, but he did have a lot to say about one thing in particular – the deplorable state of the Celtic Park pitch.

The Irishman openly expressed his concerns, emphasising the need for immediate action after watching his side win 1-0 at home to Ross county.

In a candid statement, Rodgers highlighted the persistent problem, speaking to RecordSport, “I know speaking to the staff it has been the situation over the last few years. It’s something as a club we need to address, as a flagship club in Scotland and especially with how we want to play.” These words from the manager underscore a growing frustration within the club, pointing to a long-standing issue that has been overlooked.

Rodgers, known for his philosophy of playing attractive, flowing football, finds the current state of the pitch at odds with his tactical approach. “It’s not overloaded with games – it’s more a field than a pitch. That’s the reality but however it sits we have to get the job done and thankfully we did that,” he remarked, highlighting the discrepancy between the club’s aspirations and the ground’s condition.

The effect of the pitch on Celtic’s play has not gone unnoticed, with even the players and their opponents expressing surprise at the state of the turf. Rodgers shared instances where the poor pitch quality directly impacted the game, “I think when you speak to the players and opposition it’s a bit of a surprise. But you look at Liam Scales’ pass, it comes off the toe and popped off. Matt O’Riley’s popped up and the fans get anxious but that’s the pitch.”

These incidents not only disrupt the flow of the game but also raise the anxiety levels among the fans, who expect a certain standard of play from their team. The situation reached a point of almost comical frustration when, as Rodgers pointed out, “Then Cal (McGregor) gets ready to take a shot and it pops up and nearly goes up towards the top tier. We have to deal with it.”

Brendan Rodgers’ comments serve as a stark reminder of the need for Celtic to provide a pitch that matches their stature and supports their style of play.
