Over the years, Celtic midfielder and now captain Callum McGregor has experienced a lot of success at Hampden Park.

The 28-year old has enjoyed lifting trophy after trophy, with the last coming a year ago to secure the Quadruple Treble in a penalty shootout victory over Hearts.

However, on Saturday evening, McGregor returns to the country’s national stadium with a new-look squad compared to his previous visits to Hampden.

Speaking to the media ahead of the semi-final fixture against St Johnstone, McGregor has urged his teammates to create their own history at Hampden Park by booking a place in the final next month.

“It’s a new group, so we have to go and make our own history at Hampden,” he said, as quoted by the official club website.

“The teams that I have played in have been hugely successful there, and we can take that experience and try and add that to the group. Saturday is our first opportunity as a group to go there, put on a good performance and get that success.

“You play football to win trophies, and especially as a captain, that’s your dream. But we can’t think about winning it already; we know we have a really tough game at the weekend.

“St Johnstone are holders of the two cups, and that doesn’t happen by accident.

“They were excellent last season, so we are under no illusions that it will be a really tough match for us.”

As well as Saturday’s game being the first trip to Hampden for many of the first-team squad wearing the Green and White Hoops, it is also Ange Postecoglou’s first experience.

So better way to start life off as Celtic manager, by booking a place in a cup final and giving yourself the possibility to lift early silverware in December.

This squad of players appears to be building some momentum with their results and performances before the international break.

Fingers crossed, we can see that continue, going into another must-win game this weekend.
