Reports claim Celtic are ‘closing in’ on a deal for another centre back as Neil Lennon looks to beef up his defensive options for the third time this summer.

According to SunSport, the Scottish Champions are looking to bring in Hatem Abd Elhamed and could land him for around £1.6m.

The Hapoel Be’er Sheva defender can play centre back and right back and would be a good option for a backup defender.

Celtic have made three signings already this summer and it’s no surprise two of them have been for the defence. Celtic lost Lustig, Gamboa, Izzy, Benkovic, Boyata and Toljan at the end of last season.

Hatem has played in the Belgian league with Gent, ironically the team Mikael Lustig has signed for over the past few weeks.

Should Celtic land the player, or any player before the Sarajevo game on Tuesday, they have up until 24 hours before the game to register a wild card to their squad if they leave space for that option. In reality, anybody who comes in now would be nowhere near the starting XI for such a pivotal game.
