Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has backed Ange Postecoglou to remain at the club for the ‘next few years’.

The Australian boss picked the perfect moment after the 2-1 Viaplay Cup final victory against Rangers to state how happy he was at the club and with life in Glasgow.

That was welcome news to every Hoops fan across the globe as he is adored by the Hoops faithful having turned the fortunes of the club around and won three out four trophies during his time.

Wednesday evenings match against Hearts will be his 100th game in charge at Celtic and McAvennie is expecting that he will take charge of plenty more games.

“I think he is here for the next few years,” McAvennie told [Football Insider].

“He is an honourable guy, he wants to do a job. He is here to take Celtic to where I want.

“I think Celtic should be in the group stage every single year. Once you get to the group stage you try and at least finish in the Europa League places. That is what Celtic deserve.

“If Ange does that he will be an absolute genius.”

European football will be something that the 57-year-old will have his sights set on as he looks to continually progress the club forward.

Playing regular Champions League football helps to attract quality talent to the club and also brings a great boost of wealth which can be invested into the playing squad.

He will be even more adored if he can make the Hoops a strong force in Europe once again.
