Celtic legend Paul McStay doesn’t like to live his life in the limelight or talk to many media outlets, but he offered Celtic his exclusive thoughts on the new manager on Friday. McStay believes that the Hoops have secured a ‘quality coach by appointing Ange Postecoglou as the club’s next manager.

McStay has been based out in Australia for many years and has seen first-hand what Ange is capable of over there and Asia with the coverage the former National team boss brought.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Maestro thinks that the club has a ‘winner’ on their hands, with his success wherever he has gone throughout his career as a coach.

“The people I talk to in the football world here feel Ange is a top coach, and it’s a move he deserves after all the success he’s had in Australia, Japan and with the national team.

“Everyone’s delighted his success has been recognised by a top club in Europe. The football community here are excited by the prospect of Ange working at Celtic and the prospect of it raising the profile of Australian football in the eyes of Europe.

“I’ve been here for 11 years now, and Ange is a name aligned with quality coaching and success here and in Asia.

“What I’ve learned in my 11 years of being here and keeping an eye on the game is that he’s a winner. Wherever he goes, he seems to have that formula and structure to his teams, and the way he plays brings success.

“That comes from him being a quality coach, but I think within him is a character who has that winning edge as well, which I think will be really important at Celtic.”

Many fans have been left sceptical over the appointment of Postecoglou and, in a sense, rightly so with the 55-year old not really being known in these parts of the world.

That being said, it doesn’t mean he should be written off with comments from those who know more about Postecoglou being very positive, the latest of which coming from McStay himself.

Fingers crossed, Ange can live up to those comments and lead us back to the league title next season.
