WE reported yesterday the fact Lewis Morgan had been called up to the Scotland squad at the eleventh hour to replace an injured Robert Snodgrass. Steve Clarke’s men were at Hampden on a soggy Glasgow evening to take on minnows San Marino in a dead rubber of a match.

With Lewis getting called up so late with Robert’s omission – we envisioned the midfielder would likely get some game time or Clarke had a plan for the Celtic player – this was not the case.

Lewis was called up to be a warm body on the bench as Scotland won 6-0 on the evening on a shocker of a Hampden pitch.

The game could have been abandoned with the state of the waterlogged surface but the referee continued to let play go even though the ball wouldn’t move in certain areas.

It was less than ideal circumstances in the end. Lewis must have been called up because he was local for the game – not because he was wanted on the night.
