CELTIC look set to miss out on Tommy Smith who according to RecordSport has opted to stay in the Championship this summer instead of a move to the Scottish Champions.

There was a belief last night Celtic may have got their man with reports Smith had left Huddersfield’s training camp in Austria to finalise a move elsewhere. However, that elsewhere doesn’t appear to be Celtic.

The club’s long pursuit of a full time right back stretches over a year and over two managers and two separate heads of recruitment. It’s a problem position the bhoys just can’t seem to fill.

If Tommy Smith is heading for Stoke then he will join Jack Lacey in targets the club have missed out on this summer.

Celtic have brought three players in this summer, two of the defenders. With so many exits this summer, the club are in need of more reinforcements in their back line.
