Former Celtic defender, Jozo Simunovic has spoken out about his shock summer exit from the club.

As reported by the Herald, Jozo said it was a ‘strange’ feeling being released by the club, where he had spent a large part of around five years at and opened up around how the situation of him being let go came about.

It appears the rug was pulled from under Jozo.

“In the beginning it was strange.

“It was settled that Celtic was going to extend the contract with me and just a few days before they needed to let me know that they were going to extend the deal, I got the phone call and a letter saying that they are very sorry but due to the situation with Covid, they were stopping it.

“I had amazing memories there because I won everything that is possible. I have many more good memories than bad with Celtic. I cannot moan now about my contract finishing and not being extending there, I need to focus on better things, on the great things I did with the club when I was there with my teammates. The tackle is one of them for sure but also many trophies, many finals, many derbies and the testimonials, playing in honour of club legends.”

Despite being let go in the summer, it is good to see that the Croatian is still fond of the club after what was a successful spell here.

The centre-back certainly had his ups and downs, whether that he injury problems or being a key part of the side which brought home the invincible treble.

On his day Jozo was a great player, who had the talent to make it to a higher level, but when he got that run of games he was so badly in need of to get back on form, he would pick up another injury.

It’s a shame to see him still without a club but after recovering from his latest injury, fingers crossed we see the 26-year old back in action in no time.
