James Forrest has delivered an absolutely outstanding gesture to the Auld family by gifting them his cup semi-final Celtic jersey.

The Hoops winger came off the bench to score the winning goal for Ange Postecoglou’s men against St Johnstone.

Celtic fans took the opportunity to celebrate Bertie and all he did for the club on Saturday evening as they watched the bhoys book their place in the final. It was an emotional evening for many, the Green Brigade coming up big with some memorable banners.

Celtic confirmed James has given his jersey to Bertie’s relatives as a sign of respect.

James explained to Celticfc.com: “Bertie meant so much to the Club and our supporters, he was everything to his family and we know they are missing him so much.

“The boys were really honoured to wear Bertie’s number on Sunday and we were delighted to get the result on a really emotional day.

“For me to get the goal was special but the whole team did brilliant to get the victory. We know what a tough time it’s been for the family and we just wanted them to have something from the match and from the day that we remembered one of our greatest ever legends.”

The Celtic Legend will be laid to rest on Friday. The fans are set to come out in their numbers to give Bertie the send off he absolutely deserved. It’s going to be an emotional day for everyone associated with the club.

Bertie was the life and soul of the party and was always good for a story or two. I don’t think it’s quite sucnk in yet that we won’t get another rendition of the Celtic song from the weeman.

God Bless wee Bertie.
