Celtic have made a move to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny on loan.

It’s transfer deadline day in England, but Celtic have until Thursday night to complete their business.

The Scottish champions are attempting to secure the Northern Ireland international for the season, with the Hoops hoping Palace will accept their proposal before the transfer window closes.

Devenny has been available for around £7million this summer, but despite significant interest, no club has so far made an offer that Palace consider suitable.

Celtic have now opted to explore a loan deal instead as they look to add another midfielder to Martin O’Neill’s squad, Alan Nixon reports.

The 23-year-old has made 53 appearances for Palace and has three goals to his name.

Devenny has also been part of a successful period in the club’s history, having been a member of the squad which lifted the FA Cup.

He was also an unused substitute as Palace secured a historic victory over Rayo Vallecano in the Europa Conference League final.

Celtic have been looking to strengthen in midfield following the departure of Arne Engels to West Ham, while Reo Hatate’s expected exit has created another potential vacancy in the position.

The Hoops have already moved to bring in Oliver Sorensen and Joel van den Berg, but O’Neill appears keen to add further quality before the deadline.

Devenny would offer experience of English football as well as international pedigree, and his ability to operate in midfield would give Celtic another option in the middle of the park, while he can also fill a void on the left side.

It’s now up to Palace is they accept the loan offer.
