The Celtic Trust has voiced strong concerns after discovering that some shareholders have been unable to submit their proxy votes ahead of Celtic’s 2025 Annual General Meeting.

The problem, which has reportedly persisted for nearly two weeks, appears to affect only those shareholders attempting to proxy their votes through the Trust, a development the organisation has described as deeply troubling.

This year’s AGM is set to take place at Celtic Park, on Friday, 21 November, at 10.30am. The meeting represents a major moment in the club’s calendar, giving shareholders the chance to vote on key resolutions and review the direction of the club both on and off the pitch. With the deadline for proxy submissions set for the 20th of November at 10.30am, the Trust says time is running out to ensure every supporter’s vote is properly registered.

According to the Trust, the issue lies with Computershare, Celtic PLC’s official share registrar. After several days of failed attempts to resolve the issue online, a senior representative from Computershare contacted the Trust directly. What followed, however, raised more questions than answers, particularly given the issue only affects shareholders attempting to assign their proxy to the Trust.

In a message to members, the Trust outlined the situation and called for immediate collective action to challenge what it described as a “technical” but highly suspicious problem.

“Some of you might be aware that shareholders have been reporting being unable to vote or submit their proxy to the AGM via Computershare, the PLC’s Registrar’s. This has been going on for nearly two weeks – proxies have to be in for the 20th at 10.30. This is always a big job for the Trust at this time of year. Anyway we have been in touch with Computershare to work out what is going on.

“Last night just before KO a senior guy phoned me but I chased him till this morning (shouldn’t have bothered but…). This morning he informs me that this ‘technical’ problem only applies to those who were proxying their forms to the Trust! He explained the word Trust was the problem but couldn’t explain why this wasn’t a problem in the last 25 years but has become a problem in one of the most important AGMs in our history.

“So we need to react to this using ‘shock and awe’ tactics and the Collective has to be involved.”

The statement has sparked concern among shareholders and supporters, many of whom are questioning how such an issue could arise so close to a key AGM. The fact that the technical fault appears to single out votes being directed to the Celtic Trust has led to frustration and suspicion within the fan base.

As of now, Computershare has not provided a full explanation as to why the word “Trust” is causing proxy forms to fail, or why this issue has appeared for the first time after 25 years of smooth operation. The registrar maintains the problem is purely technical, but the Trust says that answer is not good enough.

With the AGM less than two weeks away, the Celtic Trust has urged members to remain alert, stay coordinated, and take collective action to ensure that no shareholder’s vote is lost.
