WIGAN manager Paul Cook has had some glowing words of praise for his attacking midfielder even though his contract is running down rapidly.
Nick Powell joined Wigan in 2016 on a three-year deal, a deal which runs out in the summer with no signs of a renewing as of yet.
The midfielder has been in high demand from some Premier League outfits but there has also been a very real and constant interest from Celtic.
This interest intensified somewhat when Stuart Armstrong left for Southampton in the summer.
Powell would be a natural replacement for Armstrong and at the sort of age where he would fit right into Celtic’s transfer system.
Speaking about his player, the Wigan manager was gushing about his star.
“We’re speaking about a lad who has the ability to change every single football match he plays in.” Said Cook.
“He’s training every day, he’s maturing as a young man, and he’s great to be around
“We’re all seeing the benefit of that out there on the pitch, and long may that continue.”
“The more players of ours who are in demand, the better we are doing.
“But making sure all our players are under contract is a matter of priority.”
News broke shortly after this that Powell not wanting to sign a new deal or at least rejecting the terms Wigan had offered him to stay.
This has alerted all interested parties that there could be a deal to be done in January for Powell’s services.
Does the former Manchester United man want a crack at the Premier League or can Celtic persuade the £5million rated midfielder his future lies in Glasgow?
