After a near miss nearly signing with a team in Iran former Celtic striker Gary Hooper has found himself a new club in New Zealand of all places Yahoo Sports confirms.

The player has signed with Wellington Phoenix on a one-year deal.

The frontman who scored 82 goals for Celtic back when Neil Lennon was in charge the first time has been out of contract since being let go by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season.

Hooper, 31, was waiting to find the right club and it appears he’s managed to land quite the adventure as he leaves British football behind for the first time in his career.

Hooper was prolific for Celtic and even bagged himself five goals in one single game against Hearts. The player swapped Parkhead for Norwich in a £6m move which would see the Englishman get some game time in the Premier League. Ultimately, his move to Norwich didn’t work out as planned and he moved on to Sheffield Wednesday.

Wellington play in the Australian A-League and we wish the striker all the best of luck with his new move.
