It’s a transfer move that is sadly going to rumble on for a while yet, or until at least Celtic have signed a goalkeeper.

Yesterday, news came through Fraser Forster wouldn’t be signing for Celtic and had decided to stay and fight for his place at Southampton. A clubs source claiming Celtic had a new loan deal set up with Southampton but Forster had turned it down.

Late last night, SunSport ran an exclusive saying Fraser would be happy to come to Celtic but ONLY on a permanent deal. Meaning Celtic would have to pay a sizeable amount of cash plus wages to land the goalkeeper which looks highly unlikely.

It’s not public knowledge how much Southampton would be looking for to part with their goalkeeper. The St Mary’s club are in dire financial straits at the moment and are looking to get players out the door, but not at just any price.

If they have put too high a price on Fraser’s head, Celtic could play a game of chicken until nearer the end of the window. However, the window isn’t expected to close until we get further into Septemeber which would mean no Fraser for the Champions League qualifiers.
