FORMER Celtic striker turned media pundit Chris Sutton has spoken to FourFourTwo magazine about his career and what left him to finally leaving Celtic after five and a half seasons at the club.

Chris was a massive fan favourite when he made the move to Glasgow in a £6million deal from Chelsea.

The Englishman had already won the Premier League with Blackburn as a young emerging talent and when he came to Celtic he really moved things up a gear.

However, after a successful period under Martin O’Neill, it would be the appointment of Gordon Strachan that would spell the end for the striker.

Sutton had a contract agreed under the old regime and when Gordon came in, he made it clear that Chris wasn’t high up his pecking order.

“He was the type of manager to come in and change things around, and that’s absolutely fine.

“Let’s just say we had a disagreement about my contract situation, which had been agreed under the previous manager, and I ended up leaving Celtic.

“I didn’t want to leave the club. In fact, I was really sad to go after five-and-a-half seasons.

“But to be fair to him, Gordon did a good job with Celtic.”

Chris soon moved to Birmingham City in 2006.

  1. CHRIS did fantastically well for CELTIC in his 5 Seasons with the club but by the Time Gordon took over he was getting past his best so his decision to move on was best for everyone
