There were links earlier this month between Celtic and Levi Garcia [RecordSport], the Trinidad and Tobago international who has had a standout season with AEK Athens. Garcia’s performances have been instrumental in AEK’s league title win and their journey to the cup final.
However, Celtic is not the only club vying for Garcia’s signature according to The Scotsman. It’s understood that as many as 14 clubs across Europe have shown interest in the forward. Earlier this year, Villarreal was informed of a £13 million price tag on the player. Now, Lyon appears to be stepping into the fray with a bid of their own. If £13m is the price, Celtic will be nowhere near that.
Adding to the intrigue of the Lyon interest in the striker, former Celtic star Moussa Dembele’s contract is set to expire this summer, which could potentially open up a spot in the squad. Could Garcia be the one to fill it with Lyon?
Unless the reports of Villareal’s interest in the player are wide of the mark, then Celtic will certainly not be wasting their time on the deal.
It’s about to hit transfer season and there will be so many rumours flying around over the next few months. Some of them will have substance but most will not.
