SHANE DUFFY admitted he was disappointed with his part in the goal Bulgaria got on Thursday night against Ireland, so much so, even scoring the late equaliser wasn’t enough to satisfy him.

The new Celtic signing had a shaky start to the game as he captained Ireland on the night.

Bulgaria took the lead and it was an uphill battle from there to get back on level terms. They did manage it very late on when Shane got on the end of a corner and buried it into the back of the net – giving Ireland, not the result they ultimately wanted but a credible draw.

After the game, Duffy told SunSport:

“Overall, I’m a bit disappointed with the game and the result, so it’s a bittersweet moment.

“I’ll probably take the blame for it myself (the Bulgaria goal), it was sloppy defending and I didn’t get in quick enough and they punished us.

“I haven’t played a lot of football and in moments it was tough out there for me to get going. It’s disappointing but hopefully, I can put it behind me and the more games I get I’ll become sharper and fitter.

“I think we were the better team – the chances they had were from our sloppy play, they didn’t really register in other ways.

“We want to win every game and try and get further and get going with this team.”

Duffy signed for Celtic on Wednesday and is yet to meet up with his new teammates, the player was right into international duty after the deal was sorted.

Celtic have a game a week on Saturday with the centre-back in contention to start the game against Ross County up in Dingwall. He gets to fulfill a life long dream by pulling on the Hoops and hopefully helping us to ten in a row.
