Celtic have brought in a plethora of players from the J. League since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at the club, one of which being midfielder Tomoki Iwata.

Fans weren’t able to see much of the 26 year old when he initially joined the club but in recent weeks, he has came into fray more frequently.

Iwata has started in three out of his side’s last four games and not looked out of place, even assisting Callum McGregor in Saturday’s draw with Motherwell.

The Japanese has a wealth of quality and in the most recent Open Goal ‘Keeping The Ball On The Ground’ episode, Andy Halliday made an intriguing quip about the midfielder:

“I’ve heard through the grapevine the boy Iwata’s a joke”

“In training he’s supposed to be a joke.”

Going by his tone, Halliday is meaning that Iwata is immense at Lennoxtown and a cut above.

How he has heard this is unknown although after all, Iwata did win the 2022 J. League MVP award thus his ability is clear to see.

This coming Sunday, one wonders whether or not Iwata will get the nod, especially with the potential return of the magic Reo Hatate in the engine room but if he does, he will be more than ready to contribute.
