Opinion: You Owe Us a Performance, a Message to Celtic Passengers

There seems to be a massive amount of disrespect around Celtic Football Club for well over a year now. Some players openly use Celtic as a shop window to get themselves punted for the big wages elsewhere.

While we are always going to have a few players like that and have done for ages, at the moment it seems bottom-heavy with players who have clearly put themselves before the club.

At the moment we have Barkas, Bain, Bolingoli, Ntcham, Griffiths, Ajeti, and Edouard who have not shown up for Celtic for as far back as I can remember. I would have added Christie to the list but he seems to have bucked up so far this season but running down his contract still leaves questions marks over his motives.

Tonight Celtic play a Champions League qualifier in Denmark before they kick off their league campaign against Hearts at the weekend. It would be nice if some of the players mentioned could start giving something back for the wages they’ve raked in while contributing nothing or very little to the football club in recent times.

It’s bad enough our squad is so short going into the new season without carrying a load of well-paid passengers too.

You’d think Bolingoli and Ntcham would be giving Ange some selection problems but they seem to be happy enough playing a background role. God knows Bolingoli owes us, has he got the attributes to clear his debts though?

Ajeti as far as I’m concerned as a clean slate this season and a chance to turn his Celtic career around, a goal or two is what he needs and how we need goals tonight.

There is no doubting Edouard’s talent but it’s a while since he has been clinical in front of goal. He gets the odd goal but he misses a lot of chances that need his laces put through instead of finesse finishes for the cameras.

It’s hard to see any way back for Leigh Griffiths. If his own have turned their back on him imagine what kind of abuse he is in for at grounds like Tynecastle etc. I’m not buying the latest calf injury, as far as I can see he’s kicked his last ball in a Celtic shirt and ran out of last chances already.

Ntcham, Bolingoli & Griffiths won’t feature tonight but it would be smashing if any of the others could step up and repay the Celtic support with a performance worthy of the crest.
