Brendan Rodgers has openly commended Daizen Maeda for his performance and hat-trick in Sunday’s Scottish Cup match against Livingston, signaling the player’s critical role in Celtic’s aspirations this season.

Despite some initial scepticism regarding how Maeda would adapt to Rodgers’ tactical setup, especially considering his apparent suitability to Ange Postecoglou’s style, Maeda has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to the team.

Rodgers’ comments on Celtic TV underscore Maeda’s exceptional dedication and professionalism, qualities that have endeared him to both the manager and the fans.

“He’s so low maintenance. He comes in, he works, he trains with incredible intensity. And it’s a nice reward for him to get the goals for all the hard work he puts in. He looks like he will score in every game he plays in. And hopefully he will continue to that until the end of the season.

“He is a really humble guy, he works his socks and he is a really important member of this team and it’s nice to get rewards, as he constantly gets into those areas. Maybe the ball doesn’t come, sometimes, but his anticipation, his finishing from close range was very good.”

Maeda’s a funny one, you could go into the summer window and look to add more quality to the left, and probably be successful. But, the work rate and tracking back he offers, partnered with his pressing from the front, are all irreplaceable, especially at his levels.

Heading into the summer, it will be interesting to see where Rodgers’ mind is in regards to Maeda’s position in the team.
