Celtic assistant Shaun Maloney has provided an update on a trio of players who have missed training.

The Celtic squad were training at Lennoxtown on Tuesday afternoon as they prepare for their home game against Aberdeen on Wednesday night. 

There were concerns as Callum Osmand left Celtic Park in a moonboot and on crutches after their 2-1 win over Falkirk on Saturday. Kieran Tierney was substituted off and rumours began circulating online regarding the prognosis.

Kasper Hogh was missing from Saturday’s squad altogether after being seen limping after the Hoops’ Champions League play-off defeat against LASK.

Maloney has now given an update on the three players, and it’s not as bad as initially feared on all fronts.

The Hoops assistant boss stated that the trio will miss Wednesday’s match against the Dons, saying (Sky Sports):

“They’ll [Tierney and Hogh] struggle for tomorrow, desperately hope they’ll be back for the weekend.

“Osmand will be longer, that’ll be a few weeks.

“That was an ankle injury, non-contact. Again, not as bad as we first thought.”

It is good news overall. The sight of Osmand on crutches had supporters fearing the worst, especially given he missed most of last season through injury. Although Maloney didn’t give an exact timeframe, a few weeks is obviously better than many would’ve initially thought.

He’s likely to miss up until the international break, which begins in just over three weeks.

Having Tierney and Hogh back for the weekend would be a massive boost. The Hoops currently have no other senior left-back to cover for KT, while Hogh’s injury not being too serious is a positive sign in itself.

Martin O’Neill is preparing for Wednesday night’s match as they look to maintain their perfect Premiership start. A trip to St Mirren is then on the cards on Saturday evening – hopefully Tierney and Hogh continue with their recovery and are back in time for the clash in Paisley.
