Celtic have made their position clear with regards to the SPFL title and what they would prefer to bring the season to a close.

There’s been so much debate surrounding what to do for the best when it comes to sorting out the destination of the SPFL title and relegation.

Celtic are thirteen points clear at the top of the table and were relentlessly heading towards their ninth title when circumstances dictated the season be shutdown.

Since then, the debate has monopolised the conversation in Scottish football.

We’ve yet to find a Celtic supporter who wants the league to be called as it stands and the club are 100% behind the idea of playing out the rest of the season IF possible.

Instead of talking to the fans directly, the club released a statement through RecordSport:

A source said: “Celtic’s position is very clear. We have always wanted the league season to be completed and that remains our view. If there is any chance of playing the games and finishing the season over the summer then that’s what we would prefer.

“But we also understand the financial problems are piling up for clubs all across the country the longer this crisis continues. If the season has to be ended early in order to stop clubs from going to the wall then, of course, we would go along with that. It has to be all about the greater good.”

The SPFL will meet this week to thrash out the way forward and decide if stopping the league and calling positions right now is the best way to save clubs from financial meltdowns.

UEFA have warned against this but the SPFL might not have a choice.
