Chris Sutton has pinpointed consistency as Celtic’s primary hurdle in their quest to fend off Rangers’ resurgence in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Under the management of Brendan Rodgers, Celtic has seen a once comfortable eight-point lead at the top of the table dissolve, with Rangers closing the gap under their new boss, Philippe Clement.

Chris Sutton believes that Rangers have been consistent since Clement’s appointment, but “Celtic’s biggest problem” has been the lack of consistency.

Although Rodgers managed to secure a victory against Clement at Parkhead, Rangers haven’t really struggled to get over the line against the other ten SPFL teams.

Conversely, Celtic has stumbled, with losses to Kilmarnock and Hearts, and draws against Aberdeen, Hibs, St Johnstone and Motherwell, which have invited Rangers into a title race.

Sutton expressed his concerns on Sky Sports, quoted by RecordSport, saying:

“There’s a very obvious momentum swing since Philippe Clement has come into Rangers.”

“He’s building a team which, every week, they’re gathering belief.

“They found a way to win tonight but they were comfortable in the end. It wasn’t all pretty but they got over the line. And Celtic have been inconsistent and that Celtic’s biggest problem.

“They’ve not got a great record at Easter Road under Brendan Rodgers so it’s time for Celtic to go there and respond.”

Celtic need three points and a big performance at Easter Road on Wednesday night.
