CRAIG Moore has admitted to feeling “silly” for his earlier remarks where he claimed that Rangers had assembled the strongest team following their summer rebuild.
Celtic, despite not landing any blockbuster signings during the transfer window, bolstered their squad judiciously. They added depth and quality to their wings, midfield, and defence. However, the full impact of these additions is yet to be felt, with several players awaiting their Celtic debut and others set to return from injuries.
Moore, who had been vocal about his belief that Rangers had an edge in terms of squad strength at the onset of the season, has now shifted his stance. He believes that while there might not be a considerable difference in the quality of both teams, Celtic seems to have a mental advantage.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Moore stated:
“I feel a little bit silly I’ve got to say because at the start of the season again, when I was looking on paper, the Celtic squad in terms of the lack of maybe business that they had done and the business that Rangers done, I’m going well, ‘Rangers are the strongest squad’.
“I’ve said this a couple of times but paper doesn’t win you football matches. So far, that hasn’t transferred to match day. I’ll tell you what the difference is at this moment in time, mentally, Celtic are stronger.”
I’d argue Celtic have the better squad, by quite some distance, however, I do agree that the mentality at Parkhead is far batter than in Govan, on and off the pitch.
So he wasn’t judging based on player ability but just on how many they’d bought compared to us?
