Former Ibrox boss Graeme Souness has gone into full meltdown in the media lately. His demise as a dinosaur pundit will continue to see him marginalised until he’s exclusively sitting on a talkSPORT panel talking mostly to dads who aren’t allowed to see their children.

Souness and his latest outburst comes on BBC Radio Scotland where he legitimately said the gap between Celtic and Rangers would be smaller if Celtic hadn’t been given dubious VAR decisions – as astonishing and blinkered a comment as you’re likely to see.

Souness told BBC Radio Scotland: “They [Rangers] have lost the games against Celtic which puts them [Celtic] in a very good position.

“But they [Celtic] have got away with a couple of very interesting VAR decisions.

“It could have been a very different story if they had gone against them.”

I don’t think my brain can process those comments. I’d ask Graeme to provide the specific examples of where Celtic have been helped and not hindered by ridiculous VAR decisions. It beggars belief.

Celtic have been the victim of the most outlandish hand ball decisions which have handed their opposition penalties. In contrast, they’ve gained very little from the technology coming in.

It’s astonishing Souness even coming out with comments like that. It’s as if he’s not watched any Scottish football and he’s got an opinion from the most depressingly staunch rangers fan he knows, repeating the bilge verbatim.

Celtic are at the top of the league by nine points in spite of VAR. The most recent example was the Hoops very last game before the break. Ross County we’re handed a second half penalty at Celtic Park to take the lead. The champions then had to dig deep to win the game, which they still did.

The biggest and most obvious reason for Celtic’s nine point lead is our ability to turn games around and go to the very end. If Graeme thinks it’s all down to VAR, then good luck with that, pal.
