MIKAEL LUSTIG revealed over the weekend Celtic are going to give him an answer on his future this week when he returns from international duty.

The defender is out of contract in the summer but the bhoys have a one-year option on his contract to extend his stay in Glasgow without having to renegotiate a new deal. It has been on the player’s mind all season with the right back speaking with Brendan Rodgers on several occasions about a stay.

With Brendan Rodgers out of the picture now and Celtic still without a full time manager until the summer, the news Lustig will find out if he has a future at Celtic this week comes as a surprise and has us wondering who is making that decision?

Peter Lawwell will obviously have to okay any deal but is he taking up a more significant role in playing squad decisions in the interim while they look for a new boss? Or is Neil Lennon being given the opportunity to sort out the squad as he sees fit?

We saw with the exit of Ronny Deila and then the incoming of Brendan Rodgers back two and a half years ago meant the end for Charlie Mulgrew at the club because no decision was taken on his future until a new man came in. It looks like Celtic are being pro-active, whoever is doing so behind the scens.

  1. I think a fit Lustig can still do a good job and it gives us time and cover for the new face to come in and be the number 1 right back i would keep Lustig for next season at least….
