Scotland star John McGinn could have easily moved to Celtic in the summer of 2018, although English side Aston Villa swooped in and secured the services of the midfielder.

Losing out on McGinn was a frustration for Hoops supporters, particularly now given his prosperity. He is a quality midfielder who, in hindsight, would have likely excelled in the engine room for The Bhoys.

One can only imagine how the now Villa captain would’ve been in a green and white jersey, but he would certainly have wanted to wear the iconic number seven.

This is because Henrik Larsson was his hero growing up. When asked by the Premier League’s official TikTok page who his ‘goat’ is, McGinn said: “Henrik Larsson”.

The interviewer then asked if that is the reason he wears the seven jersey: “Yep, aye that’s the reason”, McGinn replied

“I always had ‘Larsson 7’ on the back of my tops. I don’t play like him but I just like having number seven.”

A known Celtic fan, McGinn has prospered south of the border. His Villa team are currently fourth in the Premier League, his contributions proving crucial at times this season.

Back home, he is similarly key for Scotland. A favourite among the Tartan Army, McGinn regularly comes up with big moments for his country, leaving it to the imagination of watching Celtic fans how he would have faired in Hoops.
