Celtic fans will be delighted with Neil Lennon’s latest transfer update. The Celtic manager has brought in a goalkeeper and managed to keep onto Moi Elyounoissi thus far in the transfer window.

However, all we’ve heard for the past two weeks is Celtic are aggressively chasing a striker. Something which will be welcome but when you look at the squad, it’s not a top priority.

There’s one position at Celtic which needs immediate quality and cover for is centre-back. The club let go of Jozo in the summer after choosing not to invoke the final year of his Celtic contract, leaving the club with few options.

If Jullien and Ajer got injured you would be looking at a centre back pairing of Elhamed and youngster Stephen Welsh. Elhamed looks like a good option but in such a pivotal season, the club need to have quality and depth.

Neil Lennon addressed those concerns at Friday’s press conference as he told supporters he needs a new defender.

“I need a centre half in because we didn’t take the option up with Jozo and I think that we need to add to the centre-forward position.” the gaffer told CelticTV.

A deal for Ajeti looks to be getting closer, so it’s only a matter of time before Celtic seek out a centre-back.
