Celtic are being credited with an interest in Wolves winger Daniel Podence ahead of the transfer deadline in just over two weeks.

Celtic are still active in the market and looking to add to their squad ahead of another busy season.

One position that is continually coming up is the left wing, and that’s now led to several links to certain wingers across Europe.

Journalist Tom Collomosse revealed the player was left out of the EPL club’s pre-season trip. He was then left out of the squad for their season’s opening game against Manchester Utd on Monday evening.

It’s now believed Podence will be moved on in this window, with Collomosse claiming Celtic are ‘following the situation’.

The fee attached to the story is the massive elephant in the room regarding any interest from Celtic. Tom Collomosse claimed Wolves will take £12m for the 27-year-old.

Celtic are not in the business of shelling out that kind of money, and they are certainly not in the business of shelling out that kind of money for a 27-year-old player whose value could diminish by the time they want to move him on.

If Celtic are in for the player, it’s likely a loan deal, or Wolves are willing to make some massive financial concessions as well as the player himself.

Celtic are often used by agents to you their players around Europe. Telling the media that club x is after their client tends to drum up business; we have to believe there’s some of that at play.

Any deal with an EPL club for a player in their prime or near their prime will involve big cash figures, even if the club is actively looking to sell the player.

Wolves signed Podence for around €19.6m [TransferMarkt], and they’ll want to recoup a large amount of that fee.

Podence has played 105 times for Wolves, scoring 16 and assisting 9.
