Former Celtic player and Sky Sports pundit Davie Provan has branded the Ibrox club’s spending in this window ‘criminal’ but believes another liquidation event at Ibrox would be welcomed if it managed to stop the ten.
The obsession with stopping Celtic breaking their own record has hit new heights in this January window. Provan spoke about the already £14million hole in the Govan club’s finances and mentions how they can’t be looking too clever if they’re picking up even HALF of Jermain Defoe’s wages.
Speaking in his SunSport column Provan said.
“For a club that went bust recently, Gers’ spending this season looks criminal.
“That £14million black hole in the accounts?
“You get the impression Gers would take another liquidation if it meant stopping the Hoops reaching the big ten.”
The former club playing out of Ibrox fell into administration and eventual liquidation after amassing an enormous amount of debt. Unpaid tax bills, illegal payment schemes and generally paying for players they could not afford – all to keep up with Celtic.
If you don’t learn from history you are doomed to repeat the same mistakes.
Celtic are currently top of the SPFL and have a game in hand against their Glasgow rivals.
There is one thing we know for sure that the fever has set in the fear of 10 in a row it is buy buy and will end up bye-bye again, it looks like if BR names a player he says he likes then the media say he is going go and buy him and then they go out and get him and there wage bill goes higher,they must know by now the players BR wants he gets and most are signed within a few weeks not months of talking about a player, and the media get it all wrong with most if not all the stories about Celtic signings i just think if you got 30 plus squad players them that is two much you only need players that you are going use week in week out
