We reported this morning, Mark McKenzie is more than open to a move to Celtic either in January or the summer. The 21-yer-old Philadelphia Union looks to have outgrown the MLS and ready to take on the world.

I’m biased, but I believe Celtic would be the best place for the next stage of his development and the player basically agrees.

Speaking to SkySports, the towering centre-back said he’s done his homework on the club and sees the route Virgil van Dijk took to become a Premier League and Champions League winner.

Virgil was brought to the UK by Celtic who were the club to shine a major light on the defender. His move to Southampton wasn’t even needed but EPL snobbery prevented the bigger clubs from making a move. Nowadays, as we saw with Kieran Tierney, Celtic players can go for big cash to Premier League clubs.

Celtic are there to develop players, bringing them in to win things and then selling on for a huge profit. McKenzie fits the bill and the club should be doing everything to land the New York born player in January. Could he be Ajer’s long-term replacement?
