CELTIC got off to the best possible start under Neil Lennon on Wednesday night and the players deserve huge credit for picking themselves up off the floor after the start to the week.

Their manager deserted them and the fans without a second thought and their performance appears more impressive after John Kennedy’s latest revelation about the Brendan Rodgers leaving timeline.

Celtic players last proper interaction with the Celtic boss was directly after the Motherwell game after winning 4-1. The players would have sat in the dressing room and got their post-match rundown from the former Celtic manager before everybody leaving to go home.

There was a skeleton squad training at Lennoxtown on Monday and it was assumed they were told about the situation but John has told RecordSport this was not the case.

Brendan told Peter Lawwell of his intentions, Rodgers then told John Kennedy and sounded him out to move with him to Leicester.

The Irishman spoke to none of his players, at least face to face, before heading down south and concluding a move on Tuesday.

When the players were told about the situation, their jaws drop and as we reported on earlier, thought it was a joke at first. However, the sinking feeling came when the realisation of the situation kicked in.

Speaking about Rodgers leaving Kennedy said: “He said he was probably going to speak with Leicester and to get ready to take the team.

“Did Brendan speak with the players? No. He left about Monday lunchtime. He came out to training as normal and, to be fair when he left the building, nothing was done or decided.

“He was just going at that moment in time to have chats, so the players weren’t aware of it as news broke through.”

Classy from the man who preached loyalty.
