Reo Hatate has officially left Celtic after completing a deadline-day move to Burnley.

The Japan international’s departure was confirmed late last night, despite the transfer deadline initially passing without the deal being completed.

Hatate’s new club submitted a ‘deal sheet’ before the deadline and were granted an extension to finalise the transfer.

Around half an hour after the window officially slammed shut, Burnley announced the signing of the Celtic midfielder.

Hatate has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Championship club, bringing an end to his spell in Glasgow.

The transfer fee has not yet been disclosed.

Hatate leaves Celtic after establishing himself as a key figure during a hugely successful period for the club. His technical ability, energy, passing range and eye for a goal made him a popular figure among the Hoops support when on his day. The problem was, he hasn’t really been on his day consistently for about 18 months now.

His departure also marks the end of an era at Celtic.

The Japanese trio of Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda became synonymous with the club’s success in recent seasons, playing a major role in multiple trophy wins.

With Kyogo and Hatate now gone, and Maeda having also moved on this summer, none of that hugely successful Japanese trio remain in Celtic’s green and white.
