Despite scoring a brace at the weekend, Frank McAvennie is still unconvinced by Albian Ajeti. In his first league start this season, the Swiss striker scored for the first time since the tail end of February when Celtic faced Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

After signing last summer, Ajeti started well, scoring a few goals in the autumn of the 20/21 season but fell off quickly. He gained a start yesterday due to the injury that has ruled Kyogo Furuhashi out for at least three weeks.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former striker expressed his concerns for the current striker;

“I don’t think Ajeti is going to be number nine for Celtic,”

I just don’t see it, he doesn’t move enough. The way Celtic play with such high energy doesn’t suit him.

Him getting those goals tells me he can do it, which is a big boost. It was a surprise but we need to see much more.

Postecoglou will want him to do a lot more running and if he does that then it will only help Celtic.

He has to do it every game though, he can’t just be a big target man, he has to move.

After arriving for a fee of £5 million, Ajeti needs to kick on his Celtic career and make the doubters eat their words.

He has a massive chance to prove his critics wrong as he will most likely be Celtic’s sole striker for weeks to come with Georgios Giakoumakis still to gain fitness levels after signing for the hoops on transfer deadline day.
